The Brief
Paul and Alyssa had been living in their recently purchased acreage home for over a year, yet had never used their own ensuite. The space was dated, lacking storage, and most importantly, leaking — making it completely impractical for everyday use.
As a young family planning to renovate their home in stages, a lot was riding on this first project. They wanted to get it right. This space would set the tone for everything to come.
Their priorities were clear: maximise storage, create a sense of calm, and design something that felt warm, considered and built to last.
The Solution
The existing layout worked well, so the focus shifted to refining and elevating the space rather than reconfiguring it.
We prioritised smart storage solutions, introduced a custom oversized vanity and shaving cabinet, and layered in materials and lighting to create a warm, inviting atmosphere. Behind the scenes, we addressed the original cause of failure — installing a proper copper shower tray and ensuring the space was built to perform long-term.
The Design Stage – The CBRS Advantage
This project was deeply collaborative. Alyssa brought an incredibly detail-oriented mindset, carefully considering how every element would function day to day.
The vanity became the centrepiece — not just visually, but functionally. Every dimension was thoughtfully planned to maximise storage, ease of use, and cleaning. The recessed shaving cabinet was designed higher and deeper than standard, taking full advantage of the ceiling height to utilise every possible centimetre.
The overall direction balanced warmth and minimalism — earthy tones, soft textures, and layered lighting working together to create a space that feels calm, grounded and refined.

Challenges & Considerations
Like many projects, the biggest challenge wasn’t structural — it was decision fatigue.
With so much importance placed on getting everything right, Alyssa felt a lot of pressure throughout the design phase. We allowed extra time upfront and worked closely with her to guide decisions, offering reassurance and clarity when needed.
Sometimes, the role we play is not just technical — it’s helping clients move forward with confidence.
The Result
The result is a space that feels calm, warm and effortlessly functional.
What was once a leaking, unused ensuite is now one of the most inviting spaces in the home — with the vanity and soft lighting creating a beautiful moment the second you catch a glimpse through the barn door.
In Alyssa’s words, “the stress was worth it” — and that’s exactly what we aim for. A finished space that not only looks beautiful, but feels right to live in every day.
